Melbourne trip off for two Japanese horses

Two Japanese horses who held entries for Melbourne spring carnival features will not be making the trip to Australia.

Racing Victoria said after reviewing the weights and order of entry the connections of Meiner Wunsch and Meiner Fanrong have decided not to send the pair to Melbourne.

Meiner Wunsch was well down the Melbourne Cup ballot order while Meiner Fanrong was 77th in the Caulfield Cup order of entry and also held a Cox Plate nomination.

However, nine-year-old Suzuka Devious, the third horse who entered quarantine in Japan on September 10, will still be making the trip and is due to arrive on September 24 to start post-arrival quarantine at Werribee.

Suzuka Devious holds a Caulfield Cup nomination but is well down the order of entry having not passed the first elimination clause.

Three high profile Japanese contenders for the Melbourne spring carnival – Cox Plate invitees Lys Gracieux and Kluger, and Caulfield Cup second favourite Mer De Glace – are scheduled to arrive in Melbourne on October 1.
