RQ keeps watch on Sunshine Coast bushfires

Racing Queensland is monitoring bushfires on the Sunshine Coast but at this stage there is no threat to Saturday’s meeting.

The Sunshine Coast will host a meeting with more than 120 horses including the feature Swiss Ace Quality and Mooloolaba Cup.

In 2017 fire threatened Corbould Park and several near by stables were evacuated to the track.

There have been some bushfires on various parts of the Sunshine Coast this week but none directly threatening Corbould Park, which is near Little Mountain and Caloundra.

RQ’s racing manager Simon Stout said he was working closely with the Sunshine Coast Turf Club in monitoring fires on the coast.

“At this stage there is no danger to the racecourse and no problems with air quality,” he said.

“But as no one can predict fires we are keeping a close watch for any change and obviously we would not be putting any participants or horses at risk.”
