Another milestone for trainer Tony Gollan

Trainer Tony Gollan’s season of reaching milestones continued when he became the first Brisbane trainer to get 50 metropolitan winners before Christmas at Eagle Farm.

Gollan’s gelding Vienna Power ($6) got up in the last stride to beat Dream Master ($7) by a short half head with another short half head to Stryke One ($26) in third in the TAB Handicap (1000m).

Gollan is well on his way to wining his seventh straight metropolitan premiership and is keen to be the first Brisbane trainer to bring up 100 winners in a season.

He is well on his way with Vienna Power his 49-1/2th winner for the season with seven months season to go.

“I suppose there is an argument whether 49-1/2 winners counts as 50 first past the post but that seems to be the general opinion so I will go with it,” Gollan said.

“It has been a good season so far but I am not getting too carried away. We will just keep trucking along.”

Vienna Power is one of several smart horses out of part-owner Mick Power’s broodmare Power O’Raylee whose other progeny include smart gallopers Snitzkraft and Sizzling Power.

The gelding is part owned by AFL legend Leigh Matthews who was on hand to watch the win.
