ANGINA PILLS A MUST FOR OVER 50’S TOMORROW AT THE FARM

05/07/13

Well anyone heading to Eagle Farm racecourse tomorrow will need to make sure they have a supply of angina pills handy. Hopefully the club will do the right thing by the general public and offer any “over 50” attendees to the track a free angina tablet upon paying their admission fee. That angina tablet should come complete with the instruction of “take with water half an hour before Race 6 jumps 3.05pm”, meaning that each “over 50” patron’s heart will be able to stand the sheer excitement of Race 6 on the eight event card – the Queensland Cup.

The Queensland Cup is one of the last few 3200-metre races run in Australia annually and tomorrow’s is a real pearler of a race. It’s attracted horses that have been deported by the governments of countries as diverse as England (Ibicenco and Verdant) and New Zealand (Gold Cape).

With the benefit of hindsight, last year’s Queensland Cup, which was called the Queen’s Cup, was a real thriller. Beaudesert champion Spechenka, who to this day holds the Randwick 2400-metre track record, defeated Melbourne’s Maythehorsebemagic and Toowoomba’s Fantastic Blue. Now the race has proved to be a shocker ever since, as Spechenka has had 10 starts since and not won a race. Maythehorsebemagic has had 11 starts since and he’s won one race and that was over the sticks, whilst Fantastic Blue had five more starts and never finished further forward than eighth, meaning between the trio they haven’t won a solitary flat race anywhere in Australia since the 2012 Queensland Cup.

Racing Queensland Chief Handicapper Lester Grimmett has sent the scaled weights through for Eagle Farm tomorrow and they are: Race 6 – 2 kgs and Race 7 – 3 kgs.

Eagle Farm Track Manager Bill Shuck advised the website late today that the Eagle Farm track is currently a slow 7. Bill added that “I’m happy with the way the track is coming back under the circumstances and the track will hopefully get back to a slow 6 in the morning and it might even race a little bit better than that”.

Today is the last weekend of the Luxbet banner advertising on the website up the top and side, which offers up to a $500 first deposit bonus – subject to their terms and conditions.

The apprentice jockey weights for Eagle Farm tomorrow should be:
