D-Day for Mirra View in the Civic Stakes

Peter Snowden admits it’s D-Day for stakes winning mare Mirra View, who could be lining up for her final race start in Wedneday’s Listed Civic Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm.

Transferred from a washed-out Rosehill on Saturday, the Civic Stakes beckons as the final opportunity for the five-year-old mare to show some form, having finished 12th, 11th and 12th in three runs this campaign.

“Mirra View has probably been lacking her true ability this time in, she’s been a bit plain. She’s probably getting close to the breeding season. She really needs to put something forward tomorrow to make a case to keep her going,” Snowden told SKY Radio.

A winner of the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m) at Wyong last year, Mirra View (More Than Ready x Mirrasolo (Redoute’s Choice)) is likely to head to the breeding barn this season.”One last throw of the dice to see if she can resurrect something but if not she’ll probably go to stud.”

Jett Stanley will take the ride on Mirra View from barrier 16.

The stable also have Substantial resuming in the Civic Stakes and Snowden believes fresh is best for the former William Haggas import.

“Substantial is first up from a spell, he looks very good the horse, he’s in great shape, he ran a lot of placings [but] won the last one he had in Brisbane before he went out for a break, [he] came back in very good order,” Snowden said.

“He’s normally good fresh, his first two or three runs are his best runs so he’ll be competitive in a pretty tough race but he’ll run a solid race.”

Substantial recorded his first win in Australia in a Class 6 at Eagle Farm before a spell but was only 2.8 lengths off Civic Stakes favourite Tamerlane at his Australian debut in March last year, now meeting that horse 6kg better at the weights. He’s drawn barrier 11 with Kerrin McEoy to ride.

The stable’s shortest runner from five accepted is Need Some Luck in Race 6, a benchmark 72 over 1300m, but Snowden admits it will be a tough test against Godolphin’s 9.5 length Kembla Grange debut winner, Kerguelen, who heads the betting at $1.90.

Mirra View is a $61 chance for the Civic Stakes with Substantial at $34, while Need Some Luck is a $4.40 second elect with online bookmakers.
