Trainer William Haggas is set to return to Sydney’s autumn carnival, nominating three horses for the big races, including the Group 1 winner Dubai Honour.
Among the seven international entries, Haggas’ team is joined by sprinter Mrs Morrell from James Ferguson’s stable and three runners from Japan.
Dubai Honour is back in Sydney for the first time since his Ranvet-Queen Elizabeth Stakes double two years ago. The Queen Elizabeth Stakes remains his key aim, with a showdown against local stars Via Sistina and Ceolwulf, both returning in Saturday’s Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.
Haggas has also nominated Desert Hero, owned by King Charles III, and Al Mubhir for the $5 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m), though they may target the Sydney Cup (3200m) and Doncaster Mile (1600m) respectively.
Nevesh Ramdhani, Head of Racing and Wagering at Australian Turf Club, is excited about the depth of international talent.
“These horses are amongst the best we’ve seen in years,” he said. “William Haggas’ success in Sydney is well-known, and we’re particularly keen to see Dubai Honour return.”
The Japanese entries include Geoglyph, Rousham Park, and Tosen Jordan, who are all set to compete in key races.
Ferguson’s entry, Mrs Morrell, will target Sydney’s sprint races. Ramdhani also highlighted the strong international interest in Sydney’s racing scene, praising the facilities and hospitality available.
