Half-sister to Winx poised for black-type debut

With the incomparable Winx on his pedigree page, Enriched is never going to fly under the radar.

But on Saturday at Rosehill, the colt gets an opportunity to put his name in lights for reasons of his own when he steps out in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m).

By I Am Invincible out of Encosta De Lago mare Miss Atom Bomb, a half-sister to Winx, Enriched was a $450,0000 Easter Yearling purchase for trainer Michael Freedman.

Freedman has been a fan of the colts for some time, despite Enriched making a less than auspicious start.

“(At the sales), I really liked him as a physical. He was a nice strong colt and looked to have a nice temperament. He ticked a lot of boxes for what I look at,” Freedman said.

“We ran him first start in the Pierro Plate back in the early autumn and he loomed up but just faded out.

“He pulled up really sore afterwards, hence he had a long winter spell.

“But he’s always been a colt that has shown a bit at home, so it was nice to get him off to the races the other day and see him produce what he’s been showing there.”

That was at the Warwick Farm midweeks where Enriched was disappointed for a run at the top of the straight before rebalancing and finishing hard to score over 1100m.

Jason Collett will be aboard again from barrier one on Saturday and while the three-year-old will meet the likes of emerging fillies Autumn Glow and Aeliana, along with undefeated Tulloch Lodge colt Wanaruah and the seasoned Shangri La Express, Freedman expects Enriched to prove up to the task.

“He has come out of that first-up run really well and I thought the 1300 at Rosehill should suit him,” Freedman said.

“From the soft draw, we’re happy to take our chances.”

Enriched is at $14 for Saturday and $51 for the Golden Rose (1400m), which could emerge on his spring target sheet if he can stand up and be counted in the Up And Coming Stakes.

“It’s an old cliché, but you take it one run at a time and see how they measure up,” Freedman said.

“If he looked to be up to that class it’s something we would keep in mind for sure.”
