Hedged looks to find form in VOBIS Gold Sprint

Mick Price believes Hedged is capable of winning a good race if he can settle and focus.

The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr stable has been adjusting the sprinter’s headgear in an effort to bring out the best in him at Caulfield.

Hedged will wear earmuffs in Saturday’s VOBIS Gold Sprint (1200m), a first for the gelding who has previously only worn them before races.

Price says Hedged can be his own worst enemy and hopes the earmuffs will help him settle during the race.

“He’s going well, and the conditions suit,” Price said. “He just needs to run the first half correctly, then he’ll have a chance to finish strong.”

Price noted Hedged had a poor experience in Sydney, where he struggled to relax in the first half of the race.

The stable has worked hard to improve his temperament, and Price is hopeful it will pay off.

“If he gets his brain right and the ground suits, he can win a good race,” he said, adding that Hedged might head to Adelaide if he performs well.
