Lady Shenandoah leads Waller’s charge in Light Fingers Stakes

With stablemate Autumn Glow still a few weeks away from resuming, Lady Shenandoah has the chance to make an early mark in the Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick.

Autumn Glow, undefeated and returning from knee surgery, is not ready for Saturday’s feature. She only had her first barrier trial at Warwick Farm on Tuesday.

However, trainer Chris Waller will still have a strong presence in the Light Fingers Stakes (1200m), with four runners, including the $3.20 favourite Lady Shenandoah.

A dominant winner of the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) in just her fourth start, the Snitzel filly has impressed in two recent trials, and Waller is excited by her progress.

“Lady Shenandoah has come back pretty sharp, and we’re excited,” Waller said. “She did it all on raw ability last campaign and performed remarkably well early in her three-year-old year.”

Declichy Boulevard, priced at $13, is another strong contender, returning from a solid spring with two stakes placings in Melbourne. Waller is optimistic about her future.

“I think she will be one of the horses that steps up this autumn,” he said. “Her trials have been strong, and the Surround Stakes will be exciting.”

Waller’s other runners in the race are Group 3 Red Roses Stakes winner Amelita ($17) and Lazzura ($26). It’s shaping up to be a big day for the trainer, with other resuming stars like Via Sistina, Fangirl, and Joliestar at Randwick.
