Media World returns in the Up And Coming Stakes

The Clarendon Stakes has been a launch pad for the likes of dual Group One winner Zoustar and Golden Rose placegetter Graff, and Peter Snowden is hoping Media World can add his name to the esteemed list of its winners that have gone on to greater heights.

The Written Tycoon colt claimed this year’s renewal of the Hawkesbury feature in impressive fashion in May and makes his first appearance since then in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

“When you read back through the history of that race there are some damn good horses that have won it, so hopefully he can be one of them and make a name for himself this prep,”‘ Snowden said.

“He is only lightly raced and he did a good job last time in. We’re hoping he can go on with it this time through.”

A $1.4 million yearling buy for Yulong Investments, Media World is out of dual Group 3 winner Meryl.

While he isn’t the most physically imposing colt Snowden has trained, the Randwick horseman says Media World is a natural athlete and comes to hand quickly.

He will have nine rivals on Saturday, headed by dazzling debut winner Autumn Glow and last start Warwick Farm victor Enriched, a nephew of champion Winx, and Snowden is keen to see how his charge measures up.

“He is very athletic and he has come back stronger,” Snowden said.

“I would have liked to see another twenty or thirty kilos on him, but that’s just his build.

“He’s got a good draw and no weight on his back, he is meeting some very good horses though, so we’ll know where he sits after Saturday.

“The Golden Rose is definitely on the cards, but he’s got to show me on Saturday that he’s competitive because it only gets harder from here.”

Rachel King has the ride on Media World from barrier two.

He is a $13 chance with betting headed by Autumn Glow at even-money, the Chris Waller three-year-old looking to make history as the first filly to win the race.

Only nine fillies have contested it previously with their best results a brace of third placings.
