Distance query for Girl Sunday at Rosehill

Gerald Ryan is undecided whether Girl Sunday will run over 1200 or 1400 metres at Rosehill but has had a distance concern for Deploy remedied by the switch of the Brisbane meeting from Eagle Farm to Doomben.

Deploy is entered for the Moreton Cup which will now be run over 1200 metres on Saturday rather the 1300, something that suits the trainer.

“He was going to have to come back from 1300 to 1200 in the Healy Stakes for his next start so I’m happy they’ve brought it back,” Ryan said.

“The 1200 metres this week will suit him.”

Deploy will be ridden by the in-form Tim Clark who bagged a treble at Randwick on Saturday.

Closer to home, the trainer has entered Girl Sunday for the Octagonal Handicap (1400m) and a benchmark 85 (1200m) on her home track on Saturday.

“We will wait and have a look at the weights. We could even accept in both races and see how the barriers are before we make up our minds,” he said.

Girl Sunday led and was overpowered late when 1-1/2 lengths fourth at Rosehill last Saturday week in a 1200m-race won by Bonny O’Reilly who will step up to stakes class in Brisbane on Saturday.

Loverboycharlie has also been entered in the benchmark race with Ryan admitting his last-start sixth was disappointing.

He finished four lengths from the Greg McFarlane-trained Clear The Beach who he will meet again on Saturday.

“He was disappointing the other day,” Ryan said.

“He may be looking for further. I’m just not sure.”

The Octagonal Handicap attracted 22 entries headed by stakes winners Danish Twist, Destiny’s Kiss, In Her Time and Group One winner Famous Seamus.

The Kris Lees-trained Danish Twist is also entered for two races at Doomben.

Ryan’s other runners at Rosehill will be talented fillies, three-year-old Picardy Rose and her year younger stablemate Pendeloque.

“Pendeloque is a good honest filly who ran second to the good colt of Darren Beadman’s.” Ryan said.

“And Picardy Rose is a nice professional filly who is doing things right.”

Pendeloque finished a short neck second to Viridine at Rosehill on May 20 with the Godolphin colt briefly in markets for feature races in Brisbane before being ruled out of the winter carnival.
