Snowy Clark’s Caulfield preview & best bets

CAULFIELD Wednesday October 18

Middle pin of the Caulfield Cup carnival and we are racing on a hot Melbourne Wednesday with again the rail true (track racing perfectly). Expect same, no bias.

BEST BET: Race 8 #14 SILVERA

BEST VALUE: Race 2 #8 SHERLOCK HOLMES

Race 1: 4-6-9-1

UP ‘N’ROLLING comes to Melbourne of couple of small field Sydney placings behind stablemate Alward (who we have seen graduate well from Melbourne racing). Looks the one to get things rolling. SIN TO WIN is the logical danger moving through the BM system from a 78 win and maintaining good form. LYCURGUS still has upside.

SUGGESTED: UP ‘N’ ROLLING is short enough but should start the day well for punters.

Race 2: 8-1-2

Was disappointed in tactics SHERLOCK HOLMES last time, back from 2400m to the 2000m here and gets blinkers added with 4kg less. Not dropping off. Gets warm in yard so hopefully getting better at that. ANDREA MANTEGNA working into tasks well here and one to beat. VIOLATE will run well but winning strike rate concerning.

SUGGESTED: Staying with SHERLOCK HOLMES.

Race 3:  4-13-5-11

VILLERMONT looked a progressive time out to the 1600m 2nd up Benalla and can measure up this grade in town and beyond. TEMPLE OF BEL was equally impressive 2nd up Bendigo, since scratched from an assignment but comes from in-form Alexander stable. Hard to ignore a Murray Baker runner with form VIN DE DANCE.

SUGGESTED: Back VILLERMONT, save TEMPLE OF BEL.

Race 4: 3-13-11-6

Liked the way STEEL FROST attacked line here first Caulfield run and no reason to suggest won’t do it again. BRYNEICH was unlucky last time out Benalla behind WALL STREET WOLF who is finally putting ability into winning run. DUSTY JACK draws gate to suit finally.

SUGGESTED: Hard to ignore the STEEL FROST winning roll.

Race 5: 3-1-2-8

It’s been an excellent campaign for HELL OR HIGHWATER and I’m finally getting aboard in a race that maps to suit. PROMPT RESPONSE had no luck Flemington so ignore the “0”, goes to the 1600m first time. FLYING JESS is in good form. SPANNER HEAD is the value though not well placed under the set weights/penalties conditions of this G3. Did beat subsequent winner Flemington last time and worth chance at this level.

SUGGESTED: Getting on HELL OR HIGHWATER who continues to hold form.

Race 6: 2-9-10-1

JUKEBOX much better suited back at home and around a corner and on home track where undefeated. Was gallant in defeat at Flemington. FORMALITY back from forgive Golden Rose run and clear danger and a serious one. CROWN WITNESS is off a freshen up and brilliant trial – looks to have the ability to measure up. SUMMER PASSAGE missed the Guineas because of alley to come back to the 1200m here. Well placed if produces best.

SUGGESTED: Not much between top two picks but leaning JUKEBOX

RACE 7: 1-11-5-4

This has been a good day for KEEN ARRAY past two year winning Blue Sapphire two years back and this race last year and has finally found winning form again so keen to stick. SO YOU TOO arrives in good form and gets 6kg off top pick with Oliver up. Ramornie winner CALANDA has trialled well to kick off here and MALIBU STYLE sure to run well. RICH CHARM in quaddies.

SUGGESTED: Keen KEEN ARRAY.

Race 8: 14-12-7-8

SILVERA has come back in brilliant form and starting to live up to expectations. Thinking TIAMO GRACE is ready to start firing 3rd run back after no luck Flemington. ANAHEIM suited here of Lord Fandango Benalla Cup run now gets blinkers. And it is blinkers off ONCIDIUM RULER who resumes at 1700m which is a positive and typical Mick Kent move.

SUGGESTED: Very much leaning towards SILVERA to complete hat trick.

QUADDIE:
1-3

1-2-6-9-10

1-4-5-8-11

7-8-12-14

$100 for 50%
